INTRODUCTION
The educational organization depends on the performance and survival of the final product i.e. trained students in the corporate world. The one yardstick of measure is to see the placements students get, in which organizations, and secondly how many alumni help in getting juniors placed.
All of this depends on the academic process that the institution has in place and how it gets upgraded or evolved to suit the challenges posed by the corporate world. An attempt to take an overview of academic process is carried out at academic reviews of faculty, center head and regional academic coordinator.
ARM - PURPOSE AND DETAILS
The academic monitoring review is a process to make everyone understand the finer aspects of the academics. The academic process comprises of understanding & delivery of domain knowledge and the other aspects like lesson plan, classroom management, operation workout and live project.
The idea of benchmarking and keeping all faculties on same thinking levels on above aspects is explained in detail. The other aspects of development of human capital are also taken into account by reviewing the publications made by the faculty i.e. paper presentations at national domain conferences, participation at international conferences and writing of books on domain related areas.
At every stage, how the academic process helps improve the understanding of the students is viewed. The nature of methodology adopted and the actual delivery of the same is illustrated by the faculties and how it is assimilated by the audience and the authority is a measure of the adoptability of the faculty and perform in the way it is expected by the management.
In terms of the numbers, about 12 faculties and similar number of center heads are reviewed from the various regions along with the regional academic coordinators of the same regions.
Methodology: Faculty delivers the lesson plan as he / she does in the classroom. Also, the lesson plan and operation workouts and live projects are discussed i.e. how they are implemented and effectiveness of the same.
LEARNING AND EXPERIENCES
The general understanding of lesson plans was not clear for most of the faculties presented at ARM. Operation workout was not given that much attention as it was given to live project. The importance was given to conceiving, designing the live project and implementing the same.
Also, the nature of internal evaluation and marks given in evaluation were discussed. The linkage of internal evaluation and external evaluation was explored. Most of faculties faltered on the lesson plan and how it is conducted with script in classroom and the creative and innovative approaches they wanted to project and focus on. In some cases the basic domain knowledge was also lacking.
CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS
Much needs to be done in terms of clearly understanding the concepts in domain knowledge and then the academic delivery that needs to be thought out, and well scripted to deliver the lesson plan. The same needs to be emphasized for designing of the live projects and implementing them in reality. This in turn will have bearing on how many articles and writings the faculty can contribute and be projecting the INC as the right training institute for MBA Program.

ZO Kolkata answers...Why OWs?
You are aware that OWEs are attempts to bridge the gaps between the classroom and the real world. Through OWEs, a student learns practical application of skill-sets learnt in the classroom. The hand-written report submitted by the student is similar in structure to the Management Thesis-I (done during SIP).
It has been observed that in the last one month, the quantity of the OWEs done at the centers have drastically reduced. Some of the centers are either not doing any OWE, or not reporting. Some centers, ofcourse, are exceptions. Please note. OWEs are mandatory and are very much a part of our curriculum.
The domain-related questions asked by the interviewer during final placements are not directly from the text books. These are situation-based questions. If OWEs are done properly, a student will understand the application of the classroom knowledge in the real life. Hence,a student may be able to answer to such questions being asked during the Final Placement Interviews. If OWEs are not done, the students may turn to us as say "such situations have never been discussed in the classroom". We surely wish to avoid such scenario.
Therefore, please pay proper attention to OWEs !
